In 1950 Lanny Clendenon, Dub Panter, and Roscoe Miller came together to start a plant nursery in Warren County, TN. Since there were three partners, they first started calling it the Three-Cornered Nursery, but that name eventually changed to Triangle Nursery. Over a decade later, Edward S. Porter bought into the nursery and a short time later purchased the entire nursery. Porter served as the TN Commissioner of Agriculture from 1975 until 1979 and grew the business to 250 acres by the 1990s. His son-in-law, Rickey Minton, came on during this time as well working as the general manager of Triangle Nursery. In 1995, Rickey and a partner, David G. Hill, purchased the business from Edward Porter in its entirety. For 25 years, David and Rickey significantly grew the business, increasing their acreage by nearly three times its size as well as creating their own liner production and 10,000 sq. ft. greenhouse. After joining Triangle full-time in 2006, Zach – Rickey’s son – purchased David’s half of the nursery in 2020, leaving himself and Rickey as co-owners. As a third-generation owner, Zach is passionate about continuing his family’s legacy of growing high-quality trees and shrubs. Currently, Triangle focuses mostly on ball and burlap wholesale with some containers as well. Zach is currently working to continue growing Triangle’s acreage to exceed 1,000 acres. Zach’s two young sons have also shown interest in becoming nurserymen and continuing their family’s legacy into the fourth generation!
